*Afrotc Pilot Slot CarWhat is ROTC?
ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. It is one of three accession programs to become a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force. Annually, AFROTC produces more second lieutenants than any other officer program.
In AFROTC, the Detachment Commander factors in a slew of scores to rank pilot candidates who eventually compete nationwide for AFROTC pilot slots. Preparation There are some “urban legends” out there that say playing certain video games will help you prepare for the TBAS. Although the selection process leading to a pilot slot is extremely competitive, Det 820 cadets do very well. We have beaten the national average year after year for rated slots (Pilots, Combat Systems Officer/Navigators and Air Battle Managers) selection rates. If you have a pilot slot and you have to wait on UPT, now you are basically cleared off with a ’we’ll call you when you get a UPT date’ and you are an adult with no job. You can reapply on AD for a UPT slot if you don’t get one in college. I am currently an AS200 cadet with hopes of picking up a pilot slot next year. I am in good physical shape scoring mid to low 90’s on my PFA consistently. I am worried that if my PFA score isn’t 97 and above I might not get a slot. How do I join ROTC?
Joining ROTC is as simple as signing up for our classes — just as you would any other academic class. Once you have done that, you will need to attend our orientation and pass a physical fitness assessment (PFA).What are the benefits of joining ROTC?
ROTC allows you to get the required military training to become a commissioned officer in the Air Force or Space Force while still living the life of a normal college student. Is joining ROTC the same thing as joining the Air Force or Space Force?
No. In fact, some students take ROTC courses as elective credits for their degrees. However, once you complete field training and begin your third year, you will incur an active duty service commitment in the Air Force or Space Force. What is the difference between joining the Air Force or Space Force through ROTC and enlisting?
By joining Air Force ROTC and successfully completing the program, you obtain an undergraduate degree and a commission in the U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force as an officer. Military officers represent the upper command structure of the military, whereas enlisted people represent the more numerous workforce. Although an enlisted career can be very rewarding, officers are given more responsibility early on in their careers. Enlisted men and women are not required to complete college degrees.Does ROTC offer scholarships?
Yes, both high school scholarships and in-college scholarships are available depending on your degree program and year in school. Please contact us for more information or go to the AFROTC scholarship page.Do I have to join ROTC as a freshman?
No. AFROTC requires all students to enroll in the program for a minimum of 3 years. Thus, many students are able to begin their ROTC experience as a sophomore. However if you elect to take this route, you must take both freshman and sophomore aerospace studies classes during your sophomore year. What if I join ROTC and then realize that I do not like it?
Another great aspect of ROTC is that if you join and decide it isn’t for you, you have the choice of dropping at any point during your first two years (permitting you aren’t a contracted cadet) without acquiring a service commitment. Should you disenroll from the program, AFROTC classes will count as elective credits toward your degree with no service obligation to the Air Force or Space Force. Are there any academic requirements to join ROTC?

Anyone who is enrolled as a full-time student (taking at least 12 credit hours) at UNLV, College of Southern Nevada, or Nevada State College and is working towards becoming a U.S. citizen (AFROTC Cadre can provide more details on required timeline for obtaining citizenship) can join ROTC.Do I need to have a specific major to join?

The competitive nature of ROTC, the Air Force, and the Space Force does not allow every cadet that joins be accepted to field training. If you are unable to attend field training, you are unable to continue in the program and therefore unable to be commissioned through ROTC. However, this decision will not be rendered until late into the second semester of your sophomore year. How competitive is the officer-selection process?
It is extremely competitive! During the 2011 field training selection process, 54 percent of cadets who applied got accepted. However, the percentage of selected cadets varies from year to year based on the needs of the Air Force and the Space Force. No. In fact, most AFROTC cadets nationwide did not participate in JROTC while they were in high school. What is a typical day as a cadet like?
A typical day is like that of any other college student. The only way your day is different is if there is an AFROTC activity that day, such as physical training, leadership laboratory, or an aerospace studies class. What types of exercises are done at physical training?

Afrotc Pilot Slot RedditEuro Nato Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT--pronounced ’en-jept’) is an undergraduate pilot training program, located in Sheppard AFB, Texas. Its name describes its fundamental purpose. It is, historically, a jet pilot training program--run and operated by NATO. Traditionally, ENJJPT has been a fighter pilot training program. However, recently heavy airplanes have been assigned as well.
Afrotc Pilot Slot 2020What are the benefits of ENJJPT?
While often debated, the benefits of ENJJPT are many. They include, but are not limited to the following:

*Because ENJJPT is operated by NATO, both students and instructors / cadre will come from the NATO participating countries. Right from the start, you will experience working, coordinating, and training with pilots from NATO countries--a valuable skill for future AF leadership.
*Since ENJJPT is traditionally a jet fighter training program, you are guaranteed to move on from the T-6 Texan II to the T-38 Talon. In a regular undergraduate pilot training (UPT) program, you will have to compete for a T-38. Those who don’t track to the T-38 will end up going to the T-1, and eventually, into a heavy (C130, C5, KC10, etc.) airplane. Many argue that the guaranteed T-38 is the greatest advantage of going to ENJJPT. Flying a T-38 means your chances of getting a fighter or bomber are much higher.Students at ENJJPT are guaranteed to move on to the T-38, increasing
the probability of a fighter, and decreasing the pressure during the T-6 phase.Afrotc Pilot Slot Car
So, why doesn’t everyone go to ENJJPT?Here’s the catch. As you can imagine, getting into ENJJPT is very competitive. Based on the Order of Merit (left), you must first get through the Rated Board, and be selected for pilot training. This is often referred to as ’getting your pilot slot.’ This board is usually held in February/March, and your application must be completed by January 1st (approximate--talk to your Detachment NCO’s for exact deadlines). Once the Air Force has released the results of the board, you will find out if you got your pilot slot. Then, usually in September of the same year, the ENJJPT board is held. The top cadets, from those who got a pilot slot, are selected for ENJJPT. I don’t know the exact numbers, but usually 50-60 cadets are chosen for ENJJPT each year. To give you an idea of the competitiveness, there have been around 500-600 pilot slots awarded each year for the last several years. This means that roughly 10% of the pilot selectees will get to go to ENJJPT. What can I do to make sure I get in to ENJJPT?Next week, I will go into some detail about what you can do to increase your chances of getting into ENJJPT. The bottom line is this: maximize your Order of Merit. A lot of cadets don’t realize how much control they have over their Order of Merit. My understanding is that the Air Force looks purely at the numbers--meaning, they don’t spend time evaluating you as an individual. There is no entrance essay, nor is there any sort of personality considered. They simply compare the Order of Merits of every cadet who applies, and those at the top get in. Next week, I will go into more detail about what you can do to make sure you get in.
